The short version. We are sailors. We run a business that takes people sailing. We will not sell your information, we will not rent it, and we will not hand it to anyone looking to market something else to you. If we collect anything at all, it is so we can answer your question and offer you a day on the water aboard a boat we own and sail ourselves. If that is not something you are comfortable with, no hard feelings, and you are welcome to close this page.

Everything below is the detailed version of that same promise.

What we collect

When you fill out our form. Your name, email address, phone number, and whatever you tell us about your preferred departure point, the date you have in mind, how many guests are coming, and anything you write in the message field. You choose what to put there.

Automatically, when you arrive. If you reach us by clicking an advertisement or a link from another site, your browser stores a small file, called a cookie, that records where you came from. That means the advertising click identifier, the campaign name if there is one, the first page you landed on, and the site that referred you. These expire after 90 days.

Website analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and move through this site. It tells us things like which pages are read and which searches bring people here. It uses cookies and collects a shortened version of your IP address. We use it to improve the website, not to identify you.

We do not collect payment information through this website. Deposits and balances are handled separately, by invoice or by Venmo or Zelle, and those details never touch our site.

Why we collect it

To reply to you. To know which date and departure point you are asking about. To understand which of our advertisements and listings actually bring people to us, so we are not wasting money on the ones that do not.

That is the whole list.

What we do not do

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with data brokers, advertising networks, or anyone else who wants to market to you. We do not use it to build a profile of you. We do not send you marketing email unless you asked us to.

Who can see it

Capt. Mason and Capt. Lynne. That is the whole company.

Your inquiry does pass through services we use to run the business: our web host, our email provider, our analytics provider, and the service we use to send email newsletters if you have signed up for one. They hold the information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

If a law or a court ever required us to hand something over, we would comply, and we would tell you unless we were legally prohibited from doing so.

How long we keep it

Inquiries and charter records are kept as long as they are useful, which in practice means we may contact you in a future season about sailing with us again. If you would rather we did not, say so and we will remove you.

Your choices

Write to us at info@buzzardsbaychartercompany.com and we will tell you what we have about you, correct it, or delete it. No forms, no process, no fee. We will get back to you within a reasonable time, because there are only two of us and we may be on the water.

You can also refuse cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on. Nothing on this site will break if you do.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. In practice we do not do business with minors at all. Bookings are made by adults, and an adult signs the waiver for any guest under 18. Children are very welcome aboard; their parents handle the paperwork. When a child is sailing with us we will ask for their age, and sometimes their weight, so we can determine where they fall under the life jacket laws and have the right size ready for them when they arrive at the boat.

Security

We keep your information on password-protected systems and limit who can reach it. No system is perfect and we will not pretend otherwise, but there are two of us, we do not keep payment details on the site, and there is very little here for anyone to want.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date below. We are not going to quietly start doing something we told you we would not do.
